Eternal Legacy App Reviews
It is a good game, a formidable stratey RPG for the Mac. I enjoy it but there are still a few issues where I cant pick things up off the ground. Overall its a gams that has potential but still needs some work.
This is just turn-based fighting. No character building, no story--just fighting. I guess if you like that kind of thing, and I know there are people who do, then you might like this game. I, however, did not. I enjoyed Eschalon I & II and I expected this to be a little bit more Roleplaying and a little less Street Fighter. Also, you really need a gamepad to play this properly.
The games crashes during the Phoenix figth in the desert. The fighting scenes are too long, especially when you invoke the "Agir". No strategy per say.
Gameloft really had me reeled up just for this popping out. The story was pretty awesome but what turned me off was how the battle was just turned based. Though it is conventional i find it discouraging when i have to waste a potion when i just kicked the but out of a monster just before it got to the result screen wasting a measly 1 turn of healing. Besides the battle-play everything seemed pretty decent. Now what would happen if GAMELOFT actually made the graphics for this game top-notch (HD…lols) and fixed some few bugs on that battle system cant wait to imagine what will happen next. But so far this is a good fantasy RPG approach for GAMELOFT aiming for the roleplaying players such as myself. Dont diss the game its actually pretty decent enough for you to play at when you want to pass the time. 3 out of 5 stars for you GAMELOFT. p.s- some of the dialogue didnt match up with the voice acting but i didnt mind about that anyways-(good example "Arc Rise Fantasia"). Still a lil- ways to go GAMELOFT go for the MAX!
Summary: This JRPG wants a lot of your hours but there are much better games in the genre. This is a JRPG-style game and shares a lot in common with Final Fantasy VII through X and a million other titles. While I applaud the attempt, its exactly the wrong genre of game for an low-budcet developer to choose. Ive played around 10 hours so far and have found some good points: some of the scenery and monster design is quite appealing. However, the voice acting is poor and often doesnt match the subtitles, the music is nothing special, and the writing is very poor. The writing bears special mention because, in a character driven story, the characters need to be realistic. In the first 5 hours or so, one of the characters knowingly confesses treason to the relative of a high-ranking official whom he had met only a few minutes prior. Rather than turn him in, she decides to join him. JRPG games are, at the core of their gameplay, very boring. The user wanders around fetching items and fights by selecting options from a menu. Its about as exciting as doing your taxes. They make up for this, though, by rewarding the player with a fantastic story, great music, great art, etc. Basically, they are a movie stretched out over the course of 40 hours. This is fine when its an excellent movie; however, when its not a good movie, 40 hours is a lot to ask. And thats really where this game falls down: its not that it doesnt deliver good value for the dollars, its that it doesnt deliver good value for the hours. It has to compete with the plethora of high-budget, well-written, excellently scored titles on the dirt cheap PlayStation 2 ($20-$30USD for a used console and $15 for Final Fantasy X, for example). If you are a die-hard JRPG fan that has to kill a lot of time on business trips or the bus, this game might work for you (the price is certainly low enough to give it a try) but I wouldnt recommend it for the average gamer. --- To the developer: Dont let the problems with this game stop you from exploring the genre and leveraging the technology and art you already have. Do something unusual and cut out the filler. Ill gladly sit through 10 hours of a good concept if it makes me think, even if the execution isnt perfect.
Having played this game on my iPod Touch, Im glad to see that the textures look a lot nicer and the animations are a lot smoother on the Mac version. Sure the graphics arent the best compared to other computer games, but theyre pretty good for $6.99. The combat is fun, the story is decent, and overall this is a solid RPG for the price. The voice acting isnt very good, but I dont mind it too much, and there is an option to turn it off if you really hate it. My one complaint so far is that the movement and camera controls feel pretty clumsy, but maybe thats just me. Gameloft, please add an update with customizable controls, or at least an alternate layout (W/S to walk forward/back, A/D to rotate camera). Support for gamepads would also be nice, especially since you already have it in NOVA 2 and MC Domination.
I think Games in "Mac App Store" are too expensive usually… comparing to those of iPad or iPhone App Stores. But This game does not cost so high, and.. fun, good hit-feelings.. and translation (Korean, in my case). My rating for this app is four stars. Good job for Gameloft. (Dungeon Hunter II were also good…)
The games mechanics are decent, the graphics are about as good as you can expect from an iPhone/ipad app. The story is very strange and uninteresting, and I would have rather read text throughout the game than listened to it. The one thing that is EXTREMELY frustrating is the lack of options for controls. The controls feel contrived and completely unintuitive. I would appreciate either a control configuration option or an option to use a gamepad. Like Ive said, it is decent, but it is lacking in controls.
First off the graphics are decent but not groundbreaking especially on my 27" Core i7 iMac. Upping the polygon count would help since most textures look pretty good: Id say 3.5 out of 5 stars. Soundtrack is very good although typical but most RPGs, since the mid-late 90s, fit this bill and thats not always a bad thing. ;-) 4 out of 5 stars. Camera issues are very annoying we could use an update to control the angle and position: 2.5 out of 5 starts. Play mechanics are another personal pet peeve and even though I go way back on playing RPGs Id ask them to take a glance at the other popular games of the same genre such as the Phantasy Star & Final Fantasy games and one of my personal favorites Segas Skys of Arcadia. Voice acting isnt all that bad but seeing more text in the subtitles than what is said is somewhat irritating, 3.5 out of 5 stars. Sound effects are average and sometimes, in my limited playtime, it was missing in a few key places. Minor glitch but noticeable. 3.5 out of 5 stars. The biggest thing to remember is this game was made for iOS and smaller screens and its mega cheap and still a big bang for the buck! However, Im optimistic Gameloft will update this game and all their other Mac App titles and with our support in purchases and constructive criticisms. If Gameloft and other Mac Game developers can add a little more polish and quality I and most Mac owners would gladly pay just a little bit more for a better experience as we did when we bought our Macs. Id say keep it under $20 bucks and or closer to $15 or lower if possible. Keep the games coming! Bring us the Dungeon Hunter & Hero of Sparta series, Rogue Planet and Warp Gate to the Mac App Store ASAP! :-D
The same game for iOS is fun, and so is this version. A decent job with the port, but there are a few things that could definitely be improved upon. Key mapping for example. I dont want to have to use the mouse in my computer games to click on menu items, especially in a fast pace game such as this. While you can use the keyboard for many commands, the default (and only) layout is confusing.
It was good, but one thing that I extremely recommend is that you move the camera to where the character is facing. The controls also get annoying sometimes. I suggest you work to change the layout of the controls and also allow us to change the layout. The story is confusing, and the controls for battle are a little bit laggy. Overall, very good game, just needs a bunch of updates.
SMOOTH
Very smooth and doesnt glitch. Fun and enjoyable, you wont regret it.
not worth it
I expected more then this
I played this game on my laptop and its decent. The graphics are nice and I never had problems with the controls (you can move the camera with awsd, move with the arrow keys, and you can zoom the camera in or out just like you would scroll up or down on a page). I did have a problem with permanently setting my characters to doing specific actions. For example I wanted a character to be the healer, and every turn for that character I would have to manually set her to heal instead of attack. With this game being a real time turn based rpg, it was kind of annoying so I just turned it into manual control. I typically avoid real time turn based games so it took a little while to get used to manual control but after I did it was fine. One weird thing that stood out was that if you use some magic (like fire or earth), you cant do more than 9999 damage in one turn, and if you use melee you can easily hit at least 30k damage by the end of the game. The music was ok, the voice acting was bad (but there was an option to turn it off), and if you are looking for a good story and nothing else then do not buy this game. Overall this game is alright as long as you like real time turn based rpg, but if I would have to buy it again, I wouldnt pay anything over the current price ($6.99).
this game is a fantastic Ative time battle or atb for those who are familiar wit the term, it harkens back to games such as final fantasy 7 or chrono trigger its battle system is unique not ground breaking but fun the visuals are pretty good, and the story is engaging enough to pull me in to the end of the game all in all its 7$ well spent . it should be noted my review was for the mac version played on a 2011 mbp 13" with intel intergrated graphics played great whole way through
I enjoye playing this game alot via my mac. I however was disapointed by how much characters, levels and enemies seemed to be ripped off and ideas from Final Fantasy !0. The game has plenty of room for improvement though and if you where like me got frustrated by the connections too the Final Fantasy 10 video game.
Its an alright play, but it has many bugs. First, I can tell a lot of the story is riped off of other RPG games. The Party swap menu is very hard to work with and limited damage. also, the controls for the game made me skip half of the game :(. The voice acting is real bad (adult voice for kids?).
This game isnt that great
This game isnt that great
Overall this game is awesome. But when I get to the crystal temple after the quest with the feathers, the boss guarding the crystal glitches and quits the game. I have sent the report to apple three times. Hopefully you guys can please fix this bug, so I can enjoy more of this awesome game.
Game looks great, nice graphics but controls are very clumsy. Also you can’t use a game controller if you have one, which makes no sense! Also the voice acting is horrible!
